Benny Rietveld is currently musical director and bass player for Carlos Santana, and has been with Santana for 25 years. Benny has also played and recorded with Miles Davis, Sheila E, John Lee Hooker, Dave Matthews, Rob Thomas and Michel Legrand, performed in concert videos with Santana and Miles Davis, and appeared on live network tv shows such as Letterman, Dancing With The Stars, Jay Leno, Jools Holland and George Lopez.
A former composition major at the University of Hawaii, Benny is the recipient of 8 Grammy Awards and 3 Latin Grammies for his performances on the Santana albums Supernatural and Shaman, playing on the hit songs “Smooth, Game Of Love and others.
The multi-talented Benny has also scored films, including Brooklyn Rules (starring Alec Baldwin), written multimedia music for video gaming publications, released a solo CD entitled Mystery Of Faith, appeared in the 80s cult film Krush Groove and on the hit TV series Breaking Bad, and is a part-time writer on staff of the Herald De Paris.
Currently, he is working on another solo release, writing a book (on an undisclosed subject for now), and has just finished recording and writing for an album by the original Santana band (The Reunion Project), and for a Ronnie Isley album, produced by Carlos Santana.
All bass was recorded by Bill Malina at his studio in Sherman Oaks, California. Bill's engineering and production credits are endless and transcend genres. He’s engineered Van Halen, Ringo Starr, Santana, Lady Gaga, Pitbull, Flo Rida, Quincy Jones, Katy Perry, Charlie Wilson and many more platinum recording artists.
